Using both mashed and sliced avocado creates a better contrast in texture than a simple spread. The lemon zest and juice are essential for cutting through the rich fat of the fruit.
Instructions
Whisk the oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl until combined. Add the chopped avocado and mash into the dressing with a fork until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
Position an oven rack 4 inches from the broiler element and heat the broiler. Arrange the bread on an aluminum foilβlined baking sheet and broil until deep golden on both sides, 1 to 2 minutes per side.
Spread the mashed avocado mixture evenly over the warm toasts. Arrange the avocado slices over the top, then finish with the remaining salt and pepper flakes. Serve immediately while the bread is still hot and crisp.
