Braised Brussels Sprouts with Shallots
Tender, bright green sprouts glazed in a savory shallot butter
Why This Recipe Works
Braising Brussels sprouts in a small amount of broth ensures they stay vibrant and moist rather than drying out. This quick stovetop method creates a light, built-in glaze from the reduced cooking liquid and melted butter.
Instructions
Melt the butter in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the shallot and salt and cook until softened, about 2 minutes.
Add the Brussels sprouts, broth, and pepper to the skillet and bring the liquid to a simmer. Cover the pan tightly and cook until the sprouts turn bright green, about 9 minutes.
Remove the lid and continue to cook until the liquid has slightly thickened and the sprouts are completely tender, about 2 minutes.
Season with additional salt and pepper to taste and serve warm.
