The Simplest Green Salad
A measurement-free technique for perfectly dressed greens
Why This Recipe Works
High-quality ingredients are the backbone of this preparation, where there are no heavy dressings to hide behind. Rubbing the bowl with garlic provides a subtle aromatic backdrop without the sharp bite of raw minced cloves.
Instructions
Rub the inside of a large salad bowl with the garlic to coat the surface with its oils, then discard the clove.
Add the lettuce to the seasoned bowl.
Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the greens while tossing them very gentlyβusing your thumb over the bottle opening allows for better control.
Continue drizzling and tossing until every leaf is lightly coated and just glistening, but not weighted down by excess oil.
Sprinkle the greens with small amounts of vinegar, salt, and pepper to taste, then give the salad one final gentle toss to distribute the seasoning.
Serve immediately while the greens are vibrant and crisp.
