Crostini
Crisp, garlic-rubbed toasts for dips and spreads
Why This Recipe Works
Rubbing a raw garlic clove directly onto hot, toasted bread provides a much more nuanced aromatic base than garlic powder ever could. These sturdy toasts are designed to hold up under heavy toppings without losing their crunch.
Instructions
Adjust an oven rack to the middle position and heat the oven to 400Β°F.
Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Bake the bread until it is dry and crisp, about 10 minutes, flipping the slices over halfway through the baking time.
Rub the cut side of the garlic clove over one side of each piece of hot toasted bread.
Brush the garlic-rubbed side of the toasts with oil, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve while still warm or at room temperature.
