Garlic Toasts
Crispy rustic bread rubbed with raw garlic and olive oil
Why This Recipe Works
Choosing a high-quality, crusty rustic loaf is the key to success here. The crisp, toasted crumb acts as a natural grater for the raw garlic, providing a much brighter punch than garlic butter.
Instructions
Position an oven rack about 6 inches from the broiler element and preheat the broiler.
Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil for about 4 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through, until both sides are deeply toasted and crisp.
Rub one side of each warm toast with the garlic cloveβthe rough surface of the bread will catch the garlic as you move it across.
Drizzle the oil evenly over the toasts and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve while still warm and fragrant.
